Purpose and Objectives
From Archives Ingest Cooperation Wiki
Purpose of the Wiki
The purpose of the Wiki is to gather information in areas relevant to ingest of electronic records to national archives in Europe.
Gathering of the data is done with the help of Country Profiles. Every partner country has its own Country Profile where it can insert general country-based information about the following topics:
- General legislative and organisational background
- Rules and guidelines for management of EDRM systems, databases and other IT systems
- Preparing data from these systems for transfer to the national archives (pre-ingest)
- Transfer of electronic data to the national archives
- Tasks done to revieve data and prepare it for long-term preservation in the national archives digital repository (ingest)
Objectives of the collaboration
The gathered information will be a basis for:
- defining common criteria for the ingest processes
- providing a forum for discussion and learning from each others’ experience
- providing participants with regular analysis’ based on the contents of the Wiki
- defining recommendations for co-operation in developing practical pre-ingest, transfer and ingest solutions for electronic records
It is worth noting, that the objective of the collaboration is to serve as a shared knowledge base. Detailed practical projects should be spin-offs of the knowledge base rather than part of it.
Funding and contributions
So far, the collaboration has been sustained via voluntary contributions which also means that it has got no separate funding. The Wiki platform is maintained by the National Archives of Estonia also free of charge.
An intention of the collaboration is that when separate projects are born out of the Wiki collaboration the outcomes of these projects are delivered to all the participants free of charge in the form of uploaded publications, guidelines and Wiki pages.
If you would like to help us in improving the Wiki then especially welcome are contributions which help us to analyse the Country Profiles and to create different kinds of recommendations and analysis based on those.
